– no big updates today

Global Poverty 

-Toss the confetti!  The Dear Colleague GPE letter got to 110 signers! 

-A new Dear Colleague letter about Vaccine equity is out and the current deadline is Wed, 7/21 by close of business 

Results Updates

We’ve been doing a lot of work this year and Results will be taking a break for the month of August.  The National Webinar, Policy Forums and trainings will all be back in September.

7/22 – US Poverty and Global Poverty Forums, 5pm and 6pm PT

Actions 

Use the Action Center to complete one of three actions: 

-Write to President Biden to encourage drug manufacturers to share the vaccine production and distribution information 

-Ask your Member of Congress to sign on to a Dear Colleague letter 

-Compose a Letter to the Editor about the Child Tax Credit (CTC)

US Poverty: 

  • For CTC and EITC we advocate for these to be at full value and permanent. 
  • For Housing assistance, we advocate to increase the availability of vouchers.  


Global: 

  • Bilateral TB: $1B for the TB program within USAID Global Health 
  • GPE: $150m for the Global Partnership for Education
  • Nutrition: $300m for nutrition within the USAID Global Health 


RESULTS Updates 

  • International Conference agenda Getting ready for Advocacy week.  Watch for emails with meeting times with Members of Congress or their staff.

Campaign updates 

  • US Poverty update –  Through Biden’s proposed American Families Act, the CTC is made permanent.  The EITC credit is increased but expires in 2025.  
  • Global update-  Two of the three Dear Colleague letters are out. Sen Cantwell has signed on to the Global Partnership for Health letter but not the Nutrition.  The TB Letter is not out yet.

  1. Op-ed 101 Training webinar on T 5/18 at 6pm PT
  2. Monthly forums for US Poverty in the evening of Th 5/20 – last one before the conference.
  3. Motivational Interviewing Skills on W 5/26 at 5:30pm PT – kick-off event for a series of training
  4. International Conference in one month.  Register today for the conference, contact your group leader immediately if you want to participate in Lobby Week. 

Actions

  • LTEs and OpEds: write Letters to the Editor on US Poverty campaign to make the EITC permanent.  
  • email Senator Maria Cantwell from her website to ask her to sign onto the Nutrition Dear Colleague letter.  And then leverage your connections outside of the state – write an LTE, ask a friend or family member to call their senator. Visit the May Monthly Action Sheets for background information and scripts in the EPIC format.
